Marie Denarnaud (HPI): "My family is happy to see me in a drama where I didn’t get raped."

Marie Denarnaud has been DIPJ’s commissioner in Lille for three seasons. A role that, among other things, allowed her to move from drama to comedy.

Can we learn a little more about the private life of Commissioner Hazan in this new season?

Marie Denarnaud: In the previous season, we learned that Céline Hazan lost custody of her child…which is nothing. We also understood that he was single and his job occupied a big place in his life. The third season is a bit of a flood… We see him outside of the office. I confess that I love it!

A character with tremendous humility…

Céline has to hide her feelings due to her position. But there is also something very maternal about the way he takes responsibility for his team. I was given the role for this. I am not, a priori, one who radiates authority. On the contrary, my sensitivity is quite obvious. This creates indecision.

Did you feel the pressure to do as well as in the previous two seasons?

No, that’s the biggest advantage of supporting roles! The pressure is mainly on the authors, because they are the ones who provide the scores. And of course about Audrey Fleurot, who is a driving force and must constantly reinvent herself. Much simpler for us. Not everything is about us. And since I have time to do something else on the side, I return to shooting with great energy!

How do you feel watching new episodes?

More and more enjoyable. I even cried laughing at this. Episode 6 is truly a masterpiece for me! Unfortunately, we get scripts too late. Some members of the team got them long before we did, because they have sets to build, for example… We actors are usually the last wheel of the car. I got the texts a week before I attacked the division. Sometimes we trust too much. We’ll have to work against the flow more, but the production team fears that we’re reflecting too much and will be disappointed if a scene is deleted. I am always at war against the infantilization of players. In my way of working, the priority is always work.

What has HPI brought you?

I am an actor who is rarely given comedic roles, which I regret very much. That’s why I’m so happy to be transported to the collective imagination. The series also gave me the joy of taking part in an extremely popular project that had never happened to me. And to abandon my niche of films by authors, it is more vulgar. My parents are happy to find me in something joyful, not seeing me being raped, struggling in mud, or raising their fists and condemning things.

Répercussions, which won the Best Screenplay award at the 2023 Luchon TV Festival, will be with you very soon…

It was an incredible project with Virginie Wagon, who is a great director. He started from a scenario that could have been too confusing to turn into an incredible human fiction. It was crazy luck to work with him.
