On December 12, 2022, when outside temperatures dropped below zero, the kitchens of the George-V palace were swarming. And rightfully so, the famous Parisian establishment took on Top Chef finalists for the fourth time in a final duel. The final two contenders for the title of Best Chef 2023 had ten hours surrounded by their former promotional colleagues to craft an outstanding gastronomic menu for one hundred Red Cross volunteers. “ Since the beginning of the program, we leave the privilege of feasting and rating the candidates to the volunteers of this association »relies on Stéphane Rotenberg, who is still just as passionate about culinary competition. Also on this occasion, the association’s godmother Adriana Karembeu will be dressed in a silver lamé dress and perched on 10 cm pumps, and she will taste two menus (A and B) in the competition that night. If the last two candidates were eager to seduce a hundred guests, they also had the privilege of satisfying the tastes of the four judges and, some say, brigade commanders, for the last time. Who will win the timpani?
BUTTERFLY AND STUDENTS
From the first minutes of the evening, the servers of Europe’s most starred palace started the service waltz and brought the beginnings of each menu to the tables in front of dozens of cameras. Ravioli, mushrooms, cauliflower, horseradish and shrimp: There is an explosion of flavor for the starters of menu A as well as for the starters of menu B. Char, a fish from the trout family, makes our hearts ache. Visually, the two plates are enticing, one beautifully garnished with flowers and the other with a repurposed bone (and edible!), as intriguing as it is crunchy. Then come the desserts, which impose chocolate as the king of this end of dinner. If one chose to marry amazing spices, the other chose to stage it… smoking! Again, magic happens. But it’s time to vote, to choose, to decide between the menus.
MIXED OPINION OF VAFIF ANNE ADRIANA
While the audience was quite pleased with these celebratory meals, the presentation of one of the desserts surprised some. Will this have an effect on the votes? No matter what, Adriana Karembeu, who appeared before us as she left the table after throwing the game in the ballot box, said that she was very upset: I didn’t like everything but the work provided is top notch. Unfortunately, this remains a competition and a decision needs to be made. My choice was made and it was pretty clear. So who is hiding behind menu A, menu B, and who will finally be crowned Top Chef 2023? We’ll have to boil it a little more…
Top chef, final: Wednesday, June 7th at 21:10 on M6
