What mood is your character Sara in?
Alex Fish: He was completely injured by the removal of his chest and lost all connection with his body. This operation leaves deep sequelae that are not talked about enough. Without a bust, society sees you as less of a woman. Moreover, Sara denies the right to sexuality. Meeting a young man, the gaze of his climbing and walking friends, allows him to rebuild himself.
Was the scene where she takes a bath without hiding her breasts a turning point for you?
Yes ! At first he does not want to go, but he allows his friends to convince him. He comes back to life when he sees the scar. On set, we felt this repairing nature. We really bathed in this 8 degree water surrounded by these incredible cliffs with this waterfall behind us. It was refreshing and purifying!
Men’s appearance is important: they see sexy women there, not sick people…
… and full of life! Much more so than those who remain in narcissistic problems while they are psychologically, socially or physically amputated.
Should the series remain light despite its heavy subject matter?
Being pathetic and self-pitying is not interesting. I have no problem getting into the hardness. The series does this, because we cannot talk about cancer without talking about death, the damage suffered by the patient and their relatives, and deep injustice, because someone does it, someone does not… But we also talk about self-transcendence. .
Was this shot difficult in the mountains?
I don’t want to say yes because it’s such a great chance to do well written projects with good partners and in such a beautiful setting… If you’re tired at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter! We all had to overcome a fear. Yet Vertigo like Joséphine de Meaux crossing a rope bridge. Claustrophobia might be my case because gondolas were the only way to get to the top. For the first weeks, we had to spend an hour and a half every morning inside these eggs! We saw who we were going to play with there and realized that we were in the same boat. Those who were worried were reassured by others. We chatted, we laughed… I don’t even go skiing in my dreams! I’m afraid of everything in life, but almost nothing while playing.
Like these heroines, Clémentine Célarié battled cancer. Were you inspired by your journey to play Sara?
Not particularly, even if he speaks very freely about it. I loved going on tour with him and watching his performance. Like me, totally involved in maintaining the same level of requirement regardless of the scene. Working with players like this carries me.
