Mahdi Nebbu: "In my career as an actor, HPI is a true gift of life."

Season 2 of HPI concluded with Morgane (Audrey Fleurot) and Blackdec’s first kiss. The story continues six months later, when the latter is completely in doubt. Interview with his translator, Mehdi Nebbou.

What awaits Karadec in season 3?

Mahdi Nebbu: Someone who considers himself an honest man will understand that he is not always up to it. The less grandiose aspects of his personality will emerge: cowardice, hypocrisy, anger…

Do you enjoy playing these new aspects of your character?

Yes, because the discovery and acceptance of these flaws makes Blackdec human. Sometimes we do great things in life, and sometimes we regret it. These may not be the image of the man or woman we think we are, but they are still a part of us. It’s not easy, but she’s talking to me. And that’s all the fun of playing in a series: time allows us to explore the very complex terrain in our characters.

HPI is a particularly rich playground for an actor…

There’s an absolutely crazy mix of genres: comedy, romantic comedy, thriller, drama… We’ll even find vampires and a bit of Las Vegas Parano side (1998 movie, editor’s note) in season 3 this season. It’s a great opportunity for us gamers.

Blackdec steps back after his kiss with Morgane. How would you explain this?

It was a moment of madness. There is a lot of friendship between them beyond the feeling of love. Blackdec was deeply affected when Morgane learned that her husband left her while she was pregnant and that she did not die. And then, when he kissed her, his friend Roxane (By Clotilde Hesme), in hospital after nearing death. He could have gone further with Morgana, but in terms of morality and guilt, he couldn’t look in the mirror later. This is the tragedy of love stories: Sometimes two people are really meant for each other, but now is not the right time. We all know this. It’s a big disappointment, but it’s beautifully managed by the writers.

Fear of disappointing the public after the ratings for the first two seasons?

It’s not a fear, it’s a sense of responsibility towards the audience. We have great confidence in the writers who surprised us with season 2. All members of the team share this commitment and enthusiasm to do their best, whatever their position.

Did the success of the show open doors for you?

Of course, there is a before and an after HPI. I was already working a lot internationally, but in France the show changed a lot for me. I have more offers. When you have a popularity moment, that’s when people think of you. Sometimes it’s unfair, but that’s the game. In my career as an actor, HPI has been a true gift of life.

You will soon be on Disney+ with Tout va bien, starring Virginie Efira and Sara Giraudeau. After Audrey Fleurot, you’re still spoiled on the female partner side!

I am very lucky. I am very happy with what life is giving me right now.
