After films about Yves Saint Laurent and Coco Chanel, and Ridley Scott’s latest feature, House of Gucci, the world of luxury and haute couture will once again be discussed in fiction. A series for AppleTV+, The New Look will tell the story of French fashion icons during the Occupation during World War II.
A well-known actor from the small screen will also join the cast. This is Maisie Williams, best known for her role as Arya in Game of Thrones. The young actress will play Christian’s younger sister, Catherine Dior, a resistance figure who has been repeatedly medaled for her bravery. To interpret his older brother, Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars) has already been selected for the role. Note that French actress Juliette Binoche was chosen to play Coco Chanel.
Directed by Todd A. Kessler (Bloodline), the series is an epic thriller set at the heart of the 20th century’s greatest conflict as the era of Coco Chanel comes to an end and the era of Christian Dior just begins. The two designers will be the main protagonists of the Apple Studios show, but they won’t be the only ones who appear. Other big names of the fashion world will be honored, especially Pierre Balmain, Cristobaóbal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy. However, we do not yet know the release date of the series and the number of episodes.
