Today King III. Charles’ official coronation. Last September, his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Charles, who became monarch of England upon Elizabeth’s death, will be formally crowned this Saturday in a traditional ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London.
For many people around the world, this will likely be the first British coronation they will attend, as Elizabeth’s took place almost exactly 70 years ago, on June 2, 1953. Like Charles, Elizabeth officially became monarch upon her father’s death in 1952. however, his coronation took place more than a year after his accession. This is typical of royal coronations, which are intended to be joyous events, except during a period of mourning after a monarch’s death.
As coronations take place across the UK for the next three days, all eyes are on Westminster Abbey, where at least 2,000 guests are expected.
Artists like Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Lionel Richie… but also many heads of state, including our President Emmanuel Macron.
But the people everyone is waiting for are members of the royal family.
As the King and Queen set out for a carriage procession through the streets of London at around 11:20 am, the British Royal Family came to take their place next to Charles and witness this great historical event.
Prince Harry arrives alone at Westminster Abbey without his wife Meghan before his coronation with other members of the royal family. She was seen chatting with Princess Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, as she entered the church. Pregnant with their second child, Princess Eugenie and her husband walked in at the same time as Harry.

Princess Anne made a magnificent entrance by donning the Cape of the Order of the Scottish Thistle.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and Princess Sophie also walked through the doors of the Abbey in full attire with their children.
When King Charles arrived at the convent, his grandson, little Prince George, was holding his grandfather’s cloak.
But the image everyone was waiting for was that of future heir to the throne, Prince William and his wife, Princess Kate. Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, followed their parents to the Abbey.
