How does the series, and therefore your character Alex, survive the original movie?
Lizzy Kaplan : Since it is a mini-series, we have more time. We go from 2 hours to 8 hours. which allows us to explore more of what’s going on in the minds of the characters. We explore Alex’s childhood, his relationship with his father, and everything that drove him to act so helplessly in front of this married man. Likewise, Dan and I spend more time with his family.
What drew you to this particular project?
I take everything as it comes. As a big fan of the movie, I liked the idea of being involved in its adaptation. I felt it was one of the few cult movies that could benefit from a more modern look.
Despite his madness, have you tried to understand Alex, to put yourself in his shoes?
Completely. It’s not my job to judge my character. I believe my mission is to give meaning to his actions. He is the hero of his own story and right now, the decisions he makes in his mind are legitimate.
Did you know Joshua Jackson professionally or personally before filming?
Of course I watched a few episodes. Dawson When I was young. But we had never met before, which is surprising considering we’ve both been in this business for over two decades.
What memories do you keep from your collaboration with him?
It was great. I often thought that if I didn’t have such a great playmate, my experience on this show would have been much more brutal.
What motivates your career choices right now?
I want to continue to diversify as much as possible. I love playing complex women who are impossible to like or appreciate. These are my biggest challenges right now.
Masters of Sex, Anatomy of a Divorce, Castle Rock, Deadly Liaison… Your resume is rich in series. Is this a particularly suitable format for you?
Yes, long before it became prestige for an actor, I always preferred to do television series. I like to discover a new story for my character every week. This is how I started my career.
