Sounds like you like doing Mask Singer…
Yes, I really had fun. It was so nice to do this, the team was great. From start to finish, everything was very enjoyable: choosing the songs, working with the vocal coach… It was very good because I was designing a cafe-concert. come chickwith a music hall comrade that we sang 17 songs between us!
Unfortunately, you did not come to the end of the adventure…
I could have been caught by the audience singing the fourth song, funny life from Véronique Sanson that I prepared, but… They don’t like birds! (The Duck and the Vulture was eliminated from part 1, editor’s note). It’s true that the pointy beak side isn’t cute. Medusa is not necessarily, but you will say cuter. They told me that birds are rarely rescued by the public.
Were you in the mood as a tailor’s grandson?
It’s still rare to have a show that employs so many of the show’s artisans. When I was young, there was Maritie and Gilbert Carpentier – I was still very young!… But since then, programs that employ decorators, costume designers, tailors, designers to design costumes, there are not many! Well, I liked it a lot. I love my job but also all the talented people living around me. And costume pieces are very rare now.
Was it important to you to choose the Phoenix character for your costume?
Yes, then we offer you a small catalog of different costumes, but we still suggest that it might not be bad to buy it… (Laughs). Funny thing is, at Molières on Monday, my daughter (Sara Giraudeau, editor’s note) referred to me as a Phoenix rising from the ashes. He then told me, ‘But your daughter gave you a clue!’ it was said. But no, it wasn’t a hint! I don’t think he even remembers anymore, he completely forgot I was wearing this costume! In any case, I’m very happy to have Molière. Too good for your part to heal bird syndrome which one is good…
Was the suit difficult to manoeuvre?
He was very, very handsome, but that’s the law of all these costumes, there’s little that leaves too much room for action. The limitation of this was the wings. It had a very tight corset to hold them in. So I always moved my arms, it was the only thing I could move!
You sang in your head to cover the tracks, then in Spanish…
I decided to sing because I have a more natural lyrical voice. ziggy in your head voice. For Spanish, I spoke the language very well when I was young. So I sang to please myself love story. By the way, I would love to play a Spanish role in the cinema.
Have you tried to unmask other characters behind the scenes?
They take it seriously on this show! Ah la la… I was asking: “But who is under this costume?! It gets tiny every time I see La Biche! It’s on my shoulder! Who’s that ?!“Undiscovered, I still don’t know who, there was nothing to do, I couldn’t get the worms out of them!
In order to protect your identity, you had to bend over a measuring device and camouflage yourself on your trips to the studio…
Oh, that was funny! There’s also a pretty funny anecdote. One day I was with two of my chauffeurs, in the back of the car, all dressed in black, masked… Darth Vader, what, really! The windows were not tinted, and just as we got to the studio, two police cars jammed us. We’re almost in! They were after the scooter in front of us. They pulled him over and there a cop walked up to our car and looked inside. I have to say we’re crying with laughter because if he sees Darth Vader behind his two drivers, he’s sure to think we’re going to rob! (laughs)
While investigators were trying to unmask you, they mentioned the names of Amanda Lear, Chantal Lauby, and Mathilda May among their guesses…
Amanda Lear, that would be reasonable, huh! We still have a somewhat similar temperament. But I knew Michèle (Bernier, editor’s note) would find me quickly, we know each other a little and she knows my voice. Kev Adams for example, I’ve never met him, he doesn’t know me, maybe he wasn’t a fangreat family, I don’t know! He’s a little further into my domain than Michèle.
What’s your news?
I hope to continue my music hall show come chick In a theater next season! And I’m at the Chateauroux book fair right now for the publication of my latest novel. Arena Tour.
