Sotheby’s announced Wednesday that the month-long exhibition, running from 4 August to 5 September, will feature more than 1,500 objects from Freddie Mercury’s Garden Lodge in Kensington, west London. Items will be displayed in a series of immersive galleries, each devoted to a different aspect of the legendary rocker’s life.
The auction will take place September 6-8 and will accompany the release of a limited edition collector’s book.
Items for sale include Freddie Mercury’s tiara and accompanying cape, which can cost up to £80,000 (€90,500); handwritten lyrics “We are champions” And “Killer Queen” ; a military-style jacket made for the singer’s 39th birthday; Freddie Mercury’s mustache comb; the vest he wore in his last music video”These Are the Days of Our Lives“; acoustic guitar allegedly used to write and record the song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”; and illustrations by Freddie Mercury.
The most expensive piece to go up for auction is the rocker’s latest work, “Beauty Type” by French painter James Tissot. It should generate returns between £400,000 and £600,000 (450,000 to 680,000 euros).

Mary Austin will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale to the Mercury Phoenix Trust and one of Freddie Mercury’s closest friends, the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
