Paramount’s MTV was found to be in breach of UK broadcasting rules after airing an explosive episode of MTV Birth USA before the watershed at 9 p.m.

The Youth Channel aired tours of Ray J’s home in Miami on various dates between December 2022 and January 2023, all of which bordered on gratuitous offensive language.

“During the programme, the word ‘f**k’ was broadcast twice, the word ‘s**t’ nine times and the word ‘tits’ once,” Ofcom told British media. controller.

Paramount said the wrong version of cribs aired and it was an “unfortunate error”. It added that the error was a “one-off” rather than a “systematic error”.

However, Paramount defended the airing of the words “s**t” and “titties” at 8pm, arguing that they were used in a non-aggressive and humorous context.

Ofcom said: “The frequent use of mildly offensive language in a program broadcast seven times before the watershed was unjustified by the context and unlikely to meet public expectations for a program broadcast on this channel at the time does not become.”

The media regulator did not recommend further penalties for MTV. It has the power to impose fines or revoke broadcasting licences, but only in extreme cases.
