Gabrielle Union stars in EP drama series ‘Pretty Little Wife’ adaptation underway at Amazon

Darby Kane’s best-selling suspense novel Beautiful woman get the small screen treatment. Amazon Studios is developing a series based on the book, with Gabrielle Union in the lead role and executive producer. Meredith Lavender, Marcie Ulin and Kristen SaBerre will write and produce the project for Prime Video from A+E Studios and Range Media Partners.

Based on the international bestseller by Kane, Beautiful woman is a cat-and-mouse thriller with a meaty edge and a sexy soap opera about two brilliant — and very different — black women: Lily, the beautiful woman suspected of murdering her husband, and Ginny, the detective on the case. As they enter each other’s lives, they begin to tear down each other’s facades to reveal what really lies beneath.

Project is produced by Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson for A+E Studios, Range Media Partners and Union by I’ll Have Another Productions. A+E Studios and Amazon Studios are the studios.

Union’s I’ll Have Another focuses on storytelling that authentically surrounds marginalized communities with their specific perspectives. The company has developed TV projects with HBO Max, Freeform, Apple, Showtime, Starz and Netflix, among others. On the features side, development from Universal, MRC and Disney extends to streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon, including competitive bidding wars on two projects the company sold in 2021. Union is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners, Patti Felker and JR McGinnis.

Lavender and Ulin were most recently the showrunners/executive producers on the hit HBO Max series the flight attendant, which received Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, SAG Award and WGA Award nominations. The duo also made EPs on ABCs nashville, for which both received a nomination for the WGA New TV Series 2013. Lavender is also a co-founder of Atlanta-based production company Georgia Born. They are repped by CAA, Range and Morris Yorn.

SaBerre was most recently a co-executive producer and #2 in the CW’s writers room 4400. Her other credits include producing on HBO Max’s Red Avenue of BirdsCo-producer of HBO Max’s rules of magic, Executive Story Editor at Showtime’s The good Mr. Vogelstory editor knight case for history and staff writer for BETs Hit the ground. SaBerre has also written several novellas for the Lerner Publishing Group. SaBerre is represented by Paradigm, Grandview and Morris Yorn.

Kane’s first thriller Pretty Little Wife, edited by William Morrow, was named book of the month by the club and became the number 1 international bestseller. Her next book, thriller The Engagement Party, will be published in December 2023. She has written romantic suspense as HelenKay Dimon and is currently writing family heist stories with a touch of suspense, romance and humor. The first, Moorewood Family Rules, will be released on April 25, 2023 and has been optioned as a television series. Kane is repped by Sugar23 and the Bradford Literary Agency.
