‘Succession’ star James Cromwell saves his own ‘Babe’ from the slaughterhouse

James Cromwell, honorary member of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who portrays successor Ewan Roy, helped rescue a piglet that had fallen off a truck on its way to a facility where it would be fattened for slaughter.

The piglet was named “Babe” in honor of the film in which Cromwell played Farmer Hoggett. This role inspired him to become a vegan.

PETA points out that pigs are playful, friendly, sensitive and intelligent animals. Like people, pigs are soothed by music, love ball games, enjoy massages and have their own unique personalities.

Cromwell made a statement about saving the pig. “I was privileged to see and experience the intelligence and curious personalities of pigs while making the film Treasure, I jumped at the chance to give a real baby a second life. Every pig deserves to live its life in a sanctuary, choosing when to frolic, where to feed and how to spend its time.”

The newly christened baby will be taken to the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Dalton, Pennsylvania.
