Amazon Studios has inked an exclusive first-look deal with former Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada. Under the terms of the deal, Quesada will develop series and films for Prime Video, focusing on adapting existing and new comic book IP.
“I can’t put into words how happy I am to be joining the Amazon Studios family. From the moment Nick Pepper, Matt King and the team approached me, it was clear that we spoke the same language and shared the same creative goals. Quesada worked at Marvel Comics for 24 years. During his tenure as EIC, he helped produce many of the company’s most popular storylines before they were adapted for the big screen, including civil war, Century by UltronAnd guardians of the universe.
Quesada, the bilingual son of Cuban parents, became the first Latino to hold a position at Marvel and the first artist. Diversity within the Marvel Universe has been a priority for Quesada. Both Ms. Marvel, a Muslim American teenage heroine, and Miles Morales, the mixed-race Spider-Man, are the focus of the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewere developed as characters under his care.
Later, as Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, the multiple award-winner played a key role on the creative committee for the first series of Marvel Studios films and served as executive producer on several Marvel TV series, including daredevil, Jessica JonesAnd Luke Koi for Netflix and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD for ABC. He would make his directorial debut on the Agents of SHIELD web series, Catapult.
