Prince Harry surprise returns to London for tabloid trial

Prince Harry has come to the High Court in London regarding his complaint to Associated Newspapers Limited for illegal information gathering.

Last year, the Duke of Sussex joined a group of figures including singer Elton John to take legal action against the publisher of the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Mail Online.

The lawsuit accuses Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) of engaging in various criminal activities over the years to obtain information on high-profile figures.

Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost, David Furnish and Doreen Lawrence make up the other plaintiffs behind the case.

According to British news agency PA Media, when the lawsuit was filed in October, the broadcaster dismissed the allegations as “nonsense slander” and described the complaint as “a deliberate and planned attempt to stir Mail’s headlines into a phone hacking scandal”.

On Monday, a four-day preliminary hearing began at the Royal Courts of Justice in London as ANL sought to drop the case.

Elton John also attended the hearing.

Prince Harry seen sitting “at the back of the court and occasionally to take notes in a small black notebook”, PA agency reported.

The lawsuit against the LNA is one of many legal actions Prince Harry has filed in recent years.

He is also suing ANL after the Mail on Sunday published an article about his legal action against the UK Home Office for the security measures taken by his family during his visits to the UK.

In 2019, he sued the owners of tabloid newspapers The Sun and The Daily Mirror in the UK over allegations of phone hacking. The case against the Daily Mirror publisher is expected to be heard in May.

The 38-year-old Prince Harry’s surprise appearance in London on Monday revealed that he and his wife, Meghan, were married to the late Queen II. It marks her first return to England since attending Elizabeth’s funeral in September.

In the months that followed, the Sussexes aired a Netflix documentary series and memoirs that shed more light on the Duke’s shattered relationship with the rest of the Royal Family.

But there is a question that is burning the lips of the British today: The Sussexes will be crowned King III next May. Will she attend Charles’ coronation? An invitation has been issued by the royal family, but the mystery remains.
