Ben Whishaw and Ambika Mod, the stars of It will hurt won best actor at this year’s Broadcasting Press Guild Awards Derry girls picked up a penny.
It will hurt couldn’t even land a Best Drama Series nomination because that gong went to another BBC drama sherwood, but Whishaw and Mod saw off competition from the likes of Anna Maxwell Martin, Leslie Manville and Gary Oldman to win the big prizes.
Mod’s win will raise even more eyebrows when the BAFTA TV judges decide to remove her from this week’s Best Actress nomination list in favor of Kate Winslet, Sarah Lancashire and Imelda Staunton. Whishaw received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor.
Mod’s portrayal of struggling young doctor Shruti won the hearts of critics, while Whishaw’s starring role as Adam also won for the adaptation of Kay’s book written by Adam Kay.
Meanwhile in the awards voted for by the British media press, Lisa McGee’s Derry girls Season 3 won Channel 4’s Best Comedy and Best Writer awards following the emotional end of the Northern Irish hit. McGee triumphed in a crowded category that was also favored by Steven Knight Peaky Blinders And SAS: Rogue HeroesSharon Horgan for bad sisters And Sherwood’s Graham.
