EXCLUSIVE: Fauda Outfit Yes Studios breaks into premium documentary territory with a film about a man who suffered from locked-in syndrome for 44 hours. Scroll down for the trailer.
In 44 hours So far picked up by the French ARTE and the German SWR, the moving story of Gil Avni is told in forensic detail. Avni, an athletic and healthy father of two, was hospitalized after suddenly falling ill and being declared brain dead with only hours to live. As his family and friends said goodbye, he was conscious of what happened for 44 hours before he miraculously woke up to become one of only three known cases of locked-in syndrome worldwide.
Avni recalls his experiences in minute detail, and the 83-minute film also includes interviews with those closest to him and the medical professionals who cared for him. EP is Einat-Emma Shamir and director is Rotem Gross while Yes handles global distribution.
Sharon Levi, Managing Director of Yes Studios said: “There is much to learn from Gil’s experience and consequently even more to discuss about the treatment and understanding of coma patients. We hope this film will broaden the conversation around the world.”
The “powerful, moving and ultimately uplifting title,” Levi added, is the perfect starting point for the Fauda And Shtisel the producer’s premium documentary strategy, which she says will consist of produced and co-produced programs that have “universal appeal.” 44 hours for example, is co-produced with German indie Neue Celluloid Fabrik film production.
Manufacturer-Distributor Yes, whose other credits include on the spectrum And damn murray, will demonstrate 44 hours to Mip TV buyers next month.
