My mother disappeared – Claire Borotra and Claire Keim, friends in life: "We thought it would be great to shoot together"

The two actors, who are life partners, find themselves on the screen for the first time in this fiction set in their beloved Basque Country.

What prompted you to make this TV movie?

Claire Borotra: Claire and we are friends. We see each other regularly, so we thought it would be great to tour the Basque Country together. And I see that these sibling stories are not processed that often. Disputes, compromises, interesting, universal, an important part of humanity.

Claire Keim: Already, there was Clairette! We’ve known each other for a long time, but we’ve never had the opportunity to work together. I live in the Basque Country and he has ties there. Claire has this “family” side, her desire to be together. And I love these characters who don’t quite show themselves.

Introduce us to your characters…

Claire B. : Louise is a woman who is more afraid of Céline. Both are injured, but Louise is perhaps more fragile, more withdrawn. They express their wounds in opposite ways. She is a kind, empathetic and altruistic character.

Claire K.: Céline is torn apart at a time when something is going on in her family, and she doesn’t know how to forgive and move forward. She has so much anger, resentment and secrets.

In real life, are you more Céline or Louise?

Claire B.: I feel like a mix of the two. I took risks in my life, but I was very attached to my family.

Claire K.: I see myself more like Louise who wants to solve problems, struggles and sometimes fights against windmills. I want everyone to have a good time. Sometimes I dream of not caring like Céline!

The place where the story takes place adds a different atmosphere to the screen. How did you feel there?

Claire B.: I must admit it is something mystical. Mountain is the third female protagonist of the TV movie. We are seeing the emergence of beliefs rapidly. It’s so inspiring, it even made me want to explore further.

Claire K.: There are many legends about the mountain in the Basque Country. In mythology, sacred characters often fall from the sky. In Basque mythology, the strongest emerge from the ground. To me, here he brings out the “land” side of people who don’t mind the stars.

The fictions of France 3 generally reach good audiences. How do you explain this success?

Claire B.: I think it appeals to people. The audience can be the protagonist of the story. It is true that foreign series are made very well, but they are not like us. There we are in a French village with the actors we know and well-written scripts that appeal to everyone.

Claire K.: Viewers are very fond of reviews and have the opportunity to see our amazing sites. These are fictions at the pinnacle of mankind, talking about characters we all know. They are normal people who make mistakes. There is nothing more touching in life than human imperfection.
