Bella Ramsey gained international recognition with her recent role as the combative Ellie in ‘The Last of Us’ which established her as one of the most relevant young actresses. Her portrayal, rich in nuance and going through all kinds of emotions, has emotionally destroyed her fans on more than one occasion. Ramsey, who identifies as gender fluid and has no pronoun preferences, asked“sorry, but not really, for making people cry so much”. It seems that he has always loved to make his followers suffer and we can see it with a previous project, ‘Requiem’, a short historical horror film in which Ramsey once again stars in a lesbian storyline that broke more than one heart.
The story of the short has a certain resemblance to ‘Catherine Called Birdy’, the film by Lena Dunham in which Ramsey played a rebellious girl who refuses to marry the suitors proposed by her father (Andrew Scott), but ‘Requiem’ has a very darker and Ramsey is not this time an eccentric and conflicted young woman. Set in 1605, during the witch hunts in England, the actress plays Evelyn Whittle, a quiet young woman who hides from her father, the minister Gilbert, to be with Mary, the girl he loves. “Requiem” is available on YouTube, as you can see below, and has received high praise from fans.
Its director, Em Gilbertton, says they set out to tell this story “Why it is very important that queer people do not forget our history. We must learn from the past to face the systematic biases that continue around us and fight for our future.”.
