Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan) dies of brain aneurysm at 61

Tom Sizemore, best known for his roles in the military action dramas Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, died after being hospitalized for a brain aneurysm. He was 61 years old.

Tom Sizemore’s manager, Charles Lago, confirmed his death to People magazine on Friday, two weeks after the actor passed out from a stroke that caused the aneurysm. Since February 18, his condition is critical, he is in a coma and has not regained consciousness.

“It is with great sadness and sorrow that I have to announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore (“Tom Sizemore”), 61, passed away peacefully in his sleep today at St Joseph’s Hospital of Burbank.”representative said in a statement.

He was accompanied by his brother Paul Sizemore and twins Jayden and 17-year-old Jagger.

Paul said in a statement that he was “deeply saddened to lose my brother Tom”.

“He was bigger than life. He impacted my life more than anyone I’ve ever known. He was talented, loving, generous, and could entertain you forever with his wit and storytelling talent. I’m devastated when he’s gone, and I’ll always miss him.”

Some of the popular movies that Tom starred in throughout his career include 1994’s Born Killers, 1995’s Heat, 1998’s Saving Private Ryan, 2001’s Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor that same year. The actor has even worked for television, including the sequel to Twin Peaks in 2017 and an appearance in Cobra Kai in 2023.

According to IMDb, the actor played a total of 230 roles over his 30-year career and had 30 projects in development at the time of his death. Tom has been nominated for a Golden Satellite Award, SAG Award, and Golden Globe, among other awards, throughout his career.

But the life of the actor was not a long, calm river. He had legal problems. In 2003, an 11-year-old actress alleged that the actor touched her inappropriately, as several members of the film crew told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017.

The former actress later reportedly sued the actor for $3 million in 2018, alleging that Tom caused permanent damage, including post-traumatic stress disorder and drug and alcohol abuse.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor also struggled with addiction throughout his life and was arrested for drug possession in 2019.
