More than 44,000 people were killed in a series of earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6th. This is the last horrific report that authorities released on Saturday, February 18, 2023. If two new people are rescued, the chances of survival are clearly declining and the number of victims continues to rise.
Among them, unfortunately, is the 31-year-old Ghanaian football player Christian Atsu, who has been playing as a winger for Turkish club Hatayspor since last year. According to his representative, the professional athlete was found dead under the rubble of the luxurious Renaissance building in Hatay, in southern Turkey. The club spokesman mistakenly stated that Christian Atsu was found injured but alive the day after the earthquake. The information was denied a few hours later.
Beginning his career at FC Porto in 2011, Christian Atsu has made chain club changes, going through Cheslea FC, AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United or Saudi club Al Raed. Turkish football player Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan also died in a natural disaster. The body of the professional goalkeeper was found on Tuesday (February 7th).
