Lord, is that all it takes?
At Penn Badgley’s pod crushed Podcast, the star of Netflix You revealed that he asked creator Sera Gamble to put the kibosh on sex in Season 4 — and she said Yes.
It’s quite a challenge considering the show is about an obsessive charmer named Joe Goldberg (Badgley) who falls in love with a series of women. The first two seasons in particular were chock full of coitus, because this is Joe.
But apparently it’s not Badgley.
“I asked Sera Gamble if I could just do it NO more intimacy scenes,” he told co-host Nava Kavelin on the Stitcher Studios podcast. “It’s actually a decision that I made before I did the show. I don’t think I ever mentioned it publicly. One of the main things was, do I want to go back to a career path where I always do the romantic starring?
“Faithfulness in every relationship, including my marriage, is important to me,” Badgley continues. “I’ve come to a point where I don’t want to anymore. So I told Sera: ‘My desire will be zero, go from 100 to zero.’ But I signed this contract. I signed up for this show. i know what i did This aspect cannot be deduced from the DNA of the concept. So how much less can you make of it, was my question to her. She didn’t even blink. She was very happy it was me The Honest. She was almost, I want to say empowered, it had a very positive response. They came back with a phenomenal reduction.”
Badgley’s character travels to London in Season 4, the first part of which premiered on Netflix on February 9. The second part of the season starts on March 10.
Netflix did not disclose how many episodes the fourth season contained, but the previous three seasons contained ten episodes, suggesting a split of five and five this year. Badgley is joined in season four by Charlotte Richie, star of BBC series Call The Midwife and Ghosts, and Lukas Gage from The White Lotus.
Tilly Keeper, Amy Leigh Hickman, Tati Gabrielle and Ed Speelers are also regulars in the series.
