Sky is working on a third season of the BAFTA-winning Lennie James hit save me
save me three is in the script stage, director of content Zai Bennett revealed at a BPG event this morning, and the speed at which it hits screens will depend on the availability of creator James, who also stars.
Made by mandatory line Indie World Productions, the first two series, are among Sky’s most successful originals in recent years, garnering huge ratings and critical acclaim save me too won the BAFTA for Best Drama Series in 2021.
Starring Stephen Graham and Suranne Jones, the show follows Nelson “Nelly” Rowe, a downtrodden man whose life is turned upside down when Jody, the estranged daughter he fathered thirteen years ago, mysteriously disappears. In season two, he finally tracks down his daughter, but gives up a life of freedom and a chance to meet her to protect someone sold to a sex-trafficking ring.
At the event in London this morning, Bennett fell away save me as proof that “your most expensive show is not always your most successful” while speaking of a “less, bigger, better” approach to original stage commissions.
He revealed that Sky looks to for inspiration happy valley for his next hit, a day after Sally Wainwright’s Sarah Lancashire starrer Sensation drew 7.5 million viewers for the overnight final.
