Lyon, seventies. A peaceful watchmaker finds his composure shattered by a murder his son is guilty of, without some extenuating circumstances. What kind of hostility, understanding, and relationship will be established between these two beings, separated by a generation and an education?
In 1973, when Bertrand Tavernier offered Jean Rochefort the role of commissioner Guilboud, Jean Rochefort was delighted when he was at the start of his career at the time: “I’m so happy working with Noiret, he’s great!” Sharing a common passion for horseback riding, the two men become friends on the set in Lyon. “There was a mutual admiration between them that only grew as the days passed.”, sums up Tavernier. The two actors will meet nine times in other movies and their pleasure will never diminish. Set in his hometown of Lyon, Bertrand Tavernier delivers a surprisingly ingenious debut that owes much to the overwhelming composition of Philippe Noiret, who is as perfect as a bewildered father. Silver Bear in Berlin in the Prix Louis-Delluc 1973 and 1974.
