Zazie Beetz and Tom Hardy Rely on “Lazarus,” Early In The Works Series from Apple TV+, A+E Studios & Range

EXCLUSIVE: We hear this Oscar nominee Tom Hardy and Atlanta Primetime Emmy nominee Zazie Beetz will star in the Apple TV+ drama series Lazarus, a project still in development and closing deals. The project is a co-production between A+E Studios and Range Studios and will be sold to Apple.

Lazarus is based on the book series Joona Linna by Lars Kepler (pseudonym for Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril), which is considered by outlets to be The New York Times, Washington Post And AW, has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide.

In the series, an emaciated young man is found on a train track. Thirteen years earlier, he and his sister had disappeared, presumed victims of the notorious serial killer Jurek Walter. To find the sister, detective Saga Bauer must go undercover in the heavily guarded psychiatric hospital where Jurek Walter was held years ago. Hardy will play Jurek Walter and Beetz will play Inspector Saga Bauer, which I hear looks like Hannibal Lector-Clarice Stalling-esque roles.

Øystein Karlsen will write, produce and direct the series.

Hardy Son & Baker, consisting of Hardy and production partner Dean Baker, will be their production company behind the FX series Taboo. Also EPs are Beetz & David Rysdahl, Kepler (Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril), Niclas Salomonsson, A+E Studios (Barry Jossen, Tana Jamieson) and Range Studios (Heather Kadin, Peter Micelli and Jack Whigham).

Hardy received an Academy Award nomination for Supporting Actor The revenant. Its feature credits include Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Locke, Mad Max Fury Road, earning nearly $1.4 billion poison franchise, Capone among many others. He also starred in and produced the FX series Taboo. He also had a story by and producer credit on it Poison: Let there be carnage.

Beetz received a 2018 Emmy nomination for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in FX Atlanta like Donald Glovers on and off girlfriend. Her work credits include Bullet Train, Joker, Nine Days, The Harder They Fall, Deadpool 2, Seberg, among several others.

She will star in the upcoming crime drama miniseries Full Circle. The series will be available to stream on HBO Max this year. She is currently executive producing the upcoming comedy series History of the World: Part II, which is produced by Mel Brooks and written by David Stassen. Beetz is also an EP in the series, which debuts March 6 on Hulu.
