Netflix expressed hope for its next one Squid Game with the streamer’s biggest Korean TV and film slate to date.
The 34-man slate, revealed this morning in Korea, features a host of previously announced and new content in both the scripted and unscripted segments.
There are six Korean films, including a sci-fi thriller SON and coffins, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.
On the TV drama side, it includes the following crash course romance, which Deadline was chosen as one of the best international dramas of 2023, behind your touch [working title] and social commentary shows like bloodhounds. Part two of the revenge drama the glory which was the most-watched non-English TV show on Netflix last week with more than 80 million hours, will be released later this year.
There are also a number of reality shows including the Physical: 100 Adventure format and zombie survival game Zombie verses.
“Over the past year, Korean series and films have consistently made our global top 10 list in more than 90 countries, and three of Netflix’s most-watched shows have come from Korea,” said Don Kang, Content VP, said.
“This year we are taking the stories we tell and how we tell them even further. With this lineup of Korean titles, Netflix remains the ultimate destination for compelling, diverse and must-see Korean stories.”
The streamer benefits from the huge success of Squid Game since the launch of this show in 2021 and has another season with an entertainment format produced by British Indian Studio Lambert and The Garden.
Last year, the number of hours of Korean content on the platform increased slightly to 93, according to a study published this morning, although the increase was proportionally much smaller than in Japan, Britain and Spain. Hours of Japanese content doubled to overtake Korea at 123.
