HBO Series This Place Rules Host Andrew Callaghan Shares Apology Video After Sexual Misconduct Allegations – Update

TO UPDATE: Andrew Callaghan addresses allegations of sexual misconduct and apologizes for his behaviour.

“I didn’t realize I had this pattern that affects several people. I would like to apologize for my silence. When this stuff first came out I was in a state of denial and shock,” Callaghan said in a video shared on YouTube. “I was sued by my closest associates and my name was printed next to the words ‘sexual misconduct’ on 40 different news channels. I just got into a mental crisis.”

He continued: “I’m fine now, but I don’t think it’s about me. It’s about the people I’ve touched. So I just want to express my full sympathy, support and respect to everyone I have done wrong. I really want to do better and take full responsibility for everything I’ve done.”

EARLY January 12: Andrew Callaghan, the host of HBO’s new documentary This place rulesissued a statement in early January regarding allegations of sexual misconduct.

The allegations against Callaghan were told on TikTok by a woman named Caroline Elise, who claimed he lured her into a consensual sexual relationship. He apparently did this by exhausting them with requests.

“It’s even harder to have to relive the trauma I endured every day by seeing this man as a social justice warrior, someone who cares about human rights and gets a platform. You must not support him.’

She later updated her call to action, encouraging other women to speak up if they experience something similar. Reports suggest another woman did.

A statement was released today attributed to Callaghan’s legal representative by a PR firm. The statement alleges that a monetary demand was made before the claims were made public.

“Andrew is devastated to be accused of physical or mental coercion against anyone. Conversations about pressure and approval are extremely important, and Andrew wants to have these conversations so he can continue to learn and grow. While any dynamic is open to interpretation and good communication is essential for all parties involved, repeated demands for money should not be part of these conversations.

That’s why balanced communication is crucial to any relationship dynamic, and Andrew promises to get better at this, reminding his audience that even one concerned partner is too many, but there are always more sides to a story.

Andrew is committed to working with the right professionals to better understand himself and find ways for him to grow and improve as a person, especially with his growing platform and the vulnerabilities that come with it.”

Deadline has reached out to A24, a producer of Callaghan’s documentary, for comment.

HBO released Callaghan’s documentary This place rules on December 30. The film follows Callaghan as he travels across the United States in the months leading up to the Jan. 6 showdown at the Capitol.
