Monday, January 2, 2023, Cyril Hanouna received his first broadcast TPMP Alexia Laroche-Joubert and the new Miss France 2023 Indire Ampiot.
The producer, who had a heated argument with Sylvie Tellier before leaving the Miss France machine, was questioned by Matthieu Delormeau about the new rules of the pageant.
Indeed, for this 2023 election, the beauty pageant, long run by Geneviève de Fontenay, has adopted new rules. To fit more into her time, Alexia Laroche-Joubert indeed allowed married women, mothers, trans people or women with tattoos to introduce themselves. Until now, only women who were childless, officially single, between the ages of 18 and 24, without tattoos and who were at least 1.70 meters tall, could claim the title of Miss France.
But Matthieu Delormeau was disappointed when he didn’t see the opening on screen on the big election night on 14 December.
Therefore, he questions the producer about it: “It was the year we had to open up to moms, tattoos, slightly stronger women at the base… to show that beauty isn’t just 1m80 size 36 bombs. But when you finally look at all the girls this year, I have never seen this in my life, there were only models!”.
He adds: “What bombs! Even more than any other year. So where are the trans people, moms, big c’s…”?
Alexia Laroche-Joubert later explains to her this lack of diversity: “You’re right, we had an excellent opening. Now you can be a mother, get married and introduce yourself. It turns out that we are not the ones who choose the young women we come across at the national level, you know.”
He adds: “On a local level. The latter is the choice of the local people. So we open it, and then things will gradually improve,” he said.
While these new rules did indeed make it possible to bring some variety to regional competitions, these changes were hardly visible during the grand finale. Indeed, none of the 30 contestants were married, mothers, or transgender. On the other hand, three candidates were over the age of 24 (Ms. Lorraine, 25, Ms. Picardie and Ms. New Caledonia, 26).
