The CBS telecast of the 45th annual Kennedy Center Honors — which honored George Clooney, U2, Tania León, Gladys Knight and Amy Grant — won ratings for the network Wednesday night.

The two-hour special averaged about 5.1 million viewers, up 18% from last year when it had about 4.3 million viewers. It was the number 1 show of the night in terms of total viewership.

In addition to the CBS show, the special was also streamed on Paramount+ and CBS TVE, where it ranked as the most live streamed show on the platform on Wednesday.

The Kennedy Center Honors also made waves on social media, where the special presentation received approximately 225 million potential impressions and 10,000 mentions — up 12% and 25%, respectively, from last year.

Last year’s ceremony, which aired on December 22, generated 201 million potential views and 8,000 mentions.

The 45th annual ceremony was held on December 4 at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, DC. It is one of the top events on DC’s social calendar, and is attended by President Joe Biden, Chief Justice John Roberts and congressional leaders from both parties.

Other famous attendees included Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Garth Brooks, Chita Rivera, Sean Penn and Eddie Vedder.
