Paris has been named the world’s top city destination according to a study that ranks cities on tourism, sustainability and economic performance.
For the second consecutive year, Paris has been ranked #1 in Euromonitor International’s ranking of the 100 best urban holiday destinations, based on a comparison of 57 metrics across six “key pillars”: economic and business performance; tourist services; tourist infrastructure; tourism policy and attractiveness; Health and safety; and sustainability.
The annual report, released in collaboration with data intelligence firm Transparent Intelligence, places Dubai second, followed by Amsterdam (third) and Madrid (fourth).
The rest of the top ten consists of Rome (5th), London 6th, Munich (7th), Berlin (8th), Barcelona (9th) and New York (10th), America’s top ranked city.

Other notable results include Los Angeles as the second best city in America (15th overall), Sydney at only 32nd but ahead of Melbourne (34th), and Edinburgh at 54th against Time Out being the best city in America The world of 2022.
Euromonitor said: “The good reputation of European destinations in the index is largely due to two main pillars: tourism policy and attractiveness, and tourism infrastructure.”
Nadejda Popova, Senior Project Manager – Services and Payments at Euromonitor, said: “The strong upswing in international tourism following the lifting of travel restrictions due to Covid-19 has increased interest in value-based tourism offers and consumer preferences for domestic travel and short-term stays . -distance flights marked dynamic movements in 2022 ranking.

Europe dominates the ranking, led by Madrid in fourth place
“This has enabled the most proactive cities to improve their health and safety posture; tourist services; and tourism policy and attractiveness.
“Paris has retained the title of the world’s greatest city for exceptional achievements in tourism policy and attractiveness; tourist infrastructure; and tourism performance pillars and was once again crowned the world’s top performing travel destination.’
The report also revealed that Dubai is the leader in international arrivals by city with more than 12 million trips by 2022, almost doubling last year’s performance.
According to the report, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will be the busiest airport in the world by 2022.
It added: “While 2022 was a positive year for travel and tourism, the road to full recovery from the pandemic is long and public support across regions remains critical.”
