The hidden tunnels and well-kept secrets lurking beneath the streets of Sydney have been revealed by a former access officer.
In the parking lot of an office building on Pitt Street, behind a substation, is a metal door that leads to a tunnel that winds under the city to Central Station.
A former Transport NSW employee told the Daily Mail Australia the tunnel was one of several under Central Station that had been closed to the public.
He declined to be named but did admit to having access to the tunnels from his days as an employee.
The hidden tunnels under Sydney’s historic railway stations have been revealed by a former access officer

In the parking lot of an office building on Pitt Street, behind a substation, is a metal door that leads to a tunnel that winds under the city to the main station.
“The entrance to this particular tunnel is at a loading dock in an underground car park behind a substation,” he said.
“It is now mainly used for cleaners and freight, it is also a shortcut for the drivers and other train staff.”
“In this tunnel there is also a locked vault with a steel door. No one is allowed through the door and no one knows what is inside.”
“It’s a bit nerve-wracking when you sit there for so long,” revealed the former railway employee.
He posted a photo of the tunnel on Reddit, where viewers were mesmerized by the secret passage.
“Is this one of the tunnels where they have a door you can’t go through?” asked a Reddit user.
“Yes, this is one of the luggage tunnels, the red door at the end goes through to the driver’s compartment. Not much down there, but a few rats,” a man replied.
The former train worker also said there were tunnels under the historic St James station near Hyde Park.

The tunnels under St James station contain a former air raid shelter and, surprisingly, an underground train More.
Aside from the secret tunnels, there’s another spooky fact about Central Station that commuters rarely know.
Platforms 26 and 27 were built on the site of the old Devonshire Street Cemetery in the 1970s, but are still largely intact.
The corpses in the cemetery were reburied decades before the city’s train station was built, but workers who recently inspected the disused platform reported gruesome events in the dusty underworld.

Deep beneath Sydney Central Station lies one of the city’s hidden secrets: the stripped bare but completely intact platforms 26 and 27
Sydney Trains officials reported hearing voices on the walls and even the sound of children playing.
Sydney Trains operations manager Tony Eid also claims to have heard children’s voices when he visited the station’s never-used tunnels.
He previously told the Sydney Morning Herald: “Workers here said they heard children playing and, believing them to be vandals, they investigated.
“I was here once with a radio crew and we all heard the kids play. Take it as you will, but we’ve all heard it.”

Apart from the tumultuous past of the station, it is also the site of more tangible historical events such as the Battle of Central Station, where soldiers rebelling against the army engaged in a firefight with armed military guards.
A stray bullet hole near platform one is all that remains of the exchange of blows that began with a drunken soldier firing — which resulted in guards killing one and wounding eight when they returned fire.

The disturbing reports from under Central Station are linked to similar reports elsewhere on the Sydney Trains network – such as Macquarie Fields, where there have been reports of a ghostly apparition
The disturbing news below Central Station is accompanied by similar news elsewhere on the Sydney Trains network.
Ghost hunters at Macquaire Fields train station in the south-west of the city claim to have seen a ghostly apparition clutching his bloodied chest and screaming in fear.
Others claim to have heard “blowing in the wind” late at night after the last train left.
