Located near the town of Arouca – just over an hour from Porto – this route is 8.7 km long and It joins the riverbank of Areinho and the riverbank of Espiunca. Although the route is simple, you need to prepare yourself and know what you are going for because we will find many (many) stairs. Along the way, we will cross a suspension bridge as well as incredible views and being in touch with nature at every moment.

There is also the famous 516 Bridge, which is the longest pedestrian bridge in the world.

Where to start the route?

The Paiva Passageways route is linear, so there are two options to get started:

  • The parking lot of Praia fluvial de Areinho. This is how we set out for Espiunca Beach. For many this is the best way, as the beginning is the hardest with many steps and then it gets smoother.
  • Espiunca river beach. As we mentioned, the “worst part” is done at the end more than 7km behind.

There are taxi stands, bars and shuttles at each of the points, so returning to the starting point to pick up the car is no problem.

This route was opened in 2015 and has become one of the most exclusive natural destinations in the country. To be able to go (especially in high season such as summer) it is recommended to book in advance through their website. If you’ve tried Congost de Montrebei and enjoyed the experience, it’s possible that you’ll totally fall in love with it.
