Flight attendant opens up about the dark side of her ‘difficult’ job in the sky – admits she feels like she’s in a ‘CULT’ and calls her job ‘borderline modern slavery’

A flight attendant has opened up about the downsides of working in the friendly skies, saying she hates everything from the long hours to the inconsiderate passengers.

The anonymous crew member, known only as u/hopelessromanceless on Reddit, took to the r/flightattendants forum to express her dissatisfaction with the demanding job and the airline she works for.

“Does anyone else feel like this job is such a joke? “Sometimes it feels like I’m in some kind of… cult?” she began her long post.

She noted that she was “aware that some people absolutely love” being part of the flight crew and that she had “absolutely no sympathy” for their complaints.

The crew member did not provide the name of her airline but complained about the long hours, inconsiderate passengers and small management staff

The flight attendant added that she is not looking for someone to convince her to quit her job because she does not have another job and needs the money.

“I’m just so tired of this job.” “I just got back from a 14-hour flight, and before I even left the hotel room to go back, I was so over it I wanted to cry,” she said.

The woman noted that she had “relatively demanding jobs” in high school and college, saying she was a waitress and store clerk.

“I thought I could handle it, but none of it exhausted me or really made me cry,” she admitted.

She did not name the airline she works for, but accused the company of “modern slavery on the border”.

The crew member cited calling in sick as an example and said it would lead to meetings with her supervisor and an internal investigation into “why” she was sick.

“Like they’re from Mars and have never experienced a human body,” she moaned.

Not only did she feel that her employer was being mistreated, but she was fed up with the “long hours being yelled at by at least one inconsiderate jackass every flight”.

She noted that she did not even have the opportunity to communicate with her colleagues.

‘JYou don’t work with the same people, so you can’t even naturally make regular friends,” she explained. ‘[You] “I have to make a lot of effort with each other to maintain a relationship.”

She added Some crew members are “unbearable” and “passionate about this company” because of their online influence.

“I’m just so tired.” I feel so out of place in this company and in this job, and I’m so frustrated that I’m treated like crap by some bosses, even though I do my best and smile despite everything on my face. how hard it will be,” she continued.

She claimed that senior crew members reported her for minor infractions that posed no safety risk and made it “a big hassle”.

The flight attendant concluded that she was just blowing off some steam and encouraged others to voice their own complaints.

Many commenters agreed with her, and while some still struggled, others shared how they learned to cope with the demands of the job.

“Work usually sucks if you look in GENERAL. But the benefits and free time that comes with being a line owner make this job one of the best. If you don’t mind eating ramen for seven years until you make a living,” one person said.

“I just recently started this career and I’m trying to understand why everyone loves it so much,” added another. “I applied because I had a job, it wasn’t my dream or anything. I try to see it [if] Being away from my family is worth it. I missed Friendsgiving and birthdays this week just because I stayed alone in Ohio. “I’m trying to hold on for now.”

“The only reason I stay is for the benefits and the free time. I was off for almost 2 weeks. Otherwise, the job can get you if you let it,” another person shared. ‘I’m going to work. Work and go home. I can’t do anymore. Sounds harsh, but I was like this before I even started working for my airline, so it worked itself out. I cried a little here and there.”
