An Australian Love Island winner who took a 16-hour flight to Dubai has sparked an online debate after questioning whether she was harassing the woman sitting behind her on the flight.
Anna McEvoy (31) from Melbourne, Australia, won the second season of the dating show in November 2019 with her ex-partner Josh Packham.
The reality TV star is now a business owner and co-host of the relationship and lifestyle podcast “Where’s Your Head At?”, where she travels the world for both business and pleasure.
After a flight to Dubai in August, McEvoy took to TikTok to share an awkward exchange between her and another passenger with her 80,000 followers.
The video, titled “The dirtiest look I’ve ever received,” has since received over 56,000 views, over 1,000 likes and 38 comments from fans and TikTok users sharing their thoughts on the controversial travel topic.
Anna McEvoy, 31, from Melbourne, Australia, winner of the second season of Love Island Australia, sparked an online debate after backtracking on a 16-hour flight to Dubai in August.
Anna looked fresh and sat in what looked like an airport seat. She began: “Okay, time for travel stories.
“I just took a 16-hour flight – from Melbourne to Dubai – and it was an overnight flight. As soon as we left, I pushed my seat back because I wanted to try and get as much sleep as physically possible.
The former Love Islander described how the passenger “did the bang” – Australian slang for someone in a bad mood – continuing: “And the lady behind me literally did the bang because I was on an overnight flight sat my seat. it at the back.”
“So I turned it back first and then I was like no, I have to say something because I want to sleep the whole flight.
Anyway, I told her, “I’ll put it back because I need some sleep, but you can tilt your screen so you can see it – I hope that’s okay.”
Anna then revealed her fellow passengers’ snide reaction to her proposal, saying, “That Death Lady stared at me like she wasn’t even answering, she just gave me the most evil and deadly look ever.”
She ended the story by finally asking her online audience, “Am I wrong?”
Comments poured in from fans and TikTok users who debated whether the TV and podcast star was really wrong when he thought about the need to rest during a 16-hour flight.
McEvoy skeptically asked her 80,000 followers on TikTok whether she might have disturbed a passenger sitting behind her, who she said was “staring to death” during the incident.
One commenter agreed with McEvoy’s stance, writing: “There’s no way she could move her seat back and there’s only so much room.”
Another said: “The chairs aren’t going back for free. She’ll have to get over herself or pay for a front seat.”
A third agreed, recounting her own unpleasant experience: “I did it when I got home from Bali.” Night flight too. The lady behind me kept making comments about how devastated she was lol.”
Others disagreed, saying it’s more considerate to sit back after eating.
One person wrote: “If it was after dinner, then it’s perfectly acceptable,” while another said: “I agree that it’s fine after dinner.” But out of respect I always try to put only half of it back.’

However, some commenters found the idea of sitting back intrusive and “rude” with one writing: “Yeah… wait until the service is done.”
Another person wrote: “Yes, you are wrong!” That’s rude. It’s not about their screen, it’s about the limited space.”
It comes after an etiquette expert claimed in June that leaning back in an airplane seat was the height of bad manners.
Etiquette enthusiast Diane Gottsman said, “Unless you’re sitting in a seat with extra legroom or in first class, reclining your seat would be inconsiderate.”
To avoid disaster, experts advise first asking the person if you can, or at least watching what they do.
Christopher Elliot, a consumer advocate and journalist, said you should never lower your seat if the passenger behind you is tall, injured or disabled.
He said there are few circumstances in which you can recline your seat, such as on a red-eye flight or if you suffer from certain ailments such as a bad back.
