Jetstar and Qantas have announced low-cost flights as airlines raise prices due to rising fuel costs.
Domestic and international flights on Qantas will rise by 3.5 per cent from Friday, while Jetstar will increase its base fares by 3 per cent.
Qantas announced a flash “surprise sale” ahead of the promotion, which ended at midnight last night, but the airline has other offers and Jetstar’s Fare Frenzy sale runs from midday until 8pm on Friday.
A Qantas Group spokesman said: “As noted last month, continued increases in fuel prices are putting upward pressure on fares.”
“The Qantas Group has weathered recent fuel cost increases, but given current tensions in the Middle East and broader economic factors, including a weaker Australian dollar, fuel prices are expected to remain high for some time.”

Average ticket prices for Qantas to rise 3.5 per cent to offset higher costs as OPEC cuts global oil supplies
Qantas said fares would rise by an average of 3.5 per cent as a result of the fuel price rises to “recover some of these higher costs in the future, while continuing to absorb the rest”.
“Similarly, Jetstar will increase its fares by an average of 3 per cent, although actual increases will vary by route and cabin.”
The airline also added that after The adjustment will keep average rates below peak levels at the end of 2022.
“Qantas Group fully recognizes the importance of affordable travel and will continue to offer regular promotions and special offers.”
In addition, Qantas is also running a ‘Points Plus Pay’ sale on Friday, halving the number of Qantas Points required to book First Class, Business Class or Premium Economy tickets.

Both Qantas and Jetstar said they “recognize the importance of cheap travel” and will offer regular deals
