A British expat has shared her success story since leaving the UK for good after becoming fed up with Britain’s “miserable” weather and pub culture.
Claudia Woodham left her home country in 2018 and vowed: “I will most likely never return, unless the pandemic forces a brief return.”
From Thailand, she also cited the higher cost of living and bad weather as reasons for her departure.
She said: “In the UK, a lot of people are doing very badly and you feel that atmosphere and energy everywhere you go.”
“I was sick in the UK too, so I was part of the problem.”
Claudia Woodham left the UK permanently in 2018 and, apart from a brief return forced by the pandemic, vowed: “I will most likely never go back.”
She said: “A lot of people are doing really badly in the UK and you feel that vibe and energy everywhere you go.”
Ms Woodham suggested the weather was partly to blame, as the stereotypical abundance of gray in the British sky hardly provided a cheery backdrop for the day.
The weather also contributed to her leaving Britain as it affected the country’s culture and lifestyle.
“Since I don’t get to do as many outdoor activities 80 percent of the year, the weather is a big part of the reason.” [I left]” she told more than 750,000 viewers on TikTok.
“I’m someone who likes to be near the beach, I like to swim in the sea, I love tanning, being in the sun – you don’t get that in the UK.”
Although she stressed that she understood how people could enjoy life in the British Isles, Ms Woodham saw another problem with the lifestyle: “living for the weekend”.
“I don’t want to live on weekends anymore,” she continued, “I don’t want to go out drinking, I don’t want to go to bars.”
“It seems to be one of the most important social activities in Britain.”
“The last thing is that the standard of living is just so low for the wages and the money you get.”
She later shared how, after moving overseas, she founded an online sales and marketing business that now earns her a six-figure salary.
“Compared to many other countries, most people are not paid enough for their work.”
“If you have a skill or a particular asset that you can use and work somewhere else and have a much higher quality of life, why wouldn’t you do that?” she asked.
After leaving the UK, Ms Woodham initially traveled for two years before returning to the UK due to the pandemic.
Since starting her business, she has never looked back, saying, “I make a decent living from this business and I can also choose where in the world I want to live because I work completely remotely.”
“Now I live in Thailand and have a much higher quality of life and my money goes a lot further than in the UK.”
