Families preparing for an Easter break next weekend have been warned of heavy traffic – with 15 million car journeys expected each day.
The AA says the congestion will peak this Saturday as Britons across the country reunite with family and friends over the long weekend.
Roads are further affected by British Airways’ forced cancellation of more than 300 flights to and from Heathrow due to strikes by airport security staff. The airline is canceling up to 32 flights a day between today and Sunday 9 April – that’s around five per cent of its schedule.
With wet weather forecast, the motor insurer advises motorists to slow down due to the conditions on motorways.
Around 14 per cent of Britons will visit friends and family on Easter Sunday, with a quarter of 18-24 year olds likely to travel for this reason.

Closely followed by 22 percent of drivers aged 25 to 34.
Easter Monday is expected to be the quietest day, but there could still be around 12.5 million cars on the roads.
Motorists, especially those traveling on rural roads, should be aware of vulnerable road users as inclement weather often reduces visibility.
AA Patrolman of the Year Nick Powell said: “With Easter weekend being the first opportunity of the year for real family time, it’s important to get your car ready to travel before you set off.
“A few simple checks can ensure that a car breakdown does not get in the way of your plans. So it’s worth taking ten minutes to check your oil, coolant and washer levels.
“Make sure you have enough fuel or EV charging for long delays and check that all lights are working. Finally, check the tire pressure and tread depth before you leave, but don’t forget the spare tire if you have one.”
