It definitely has a Zen feel to it. But then, hopefully, when you part with thousands of dollars to enter one of New York’s most exclusive spas, you’ll be one step closer to eternal peace.

The chic Aman Hotel on Midtown’s 5th Avenue is home to the city’s most expensive rooms — they start at $2,400 — and it’s also home to one of the priciest day spas, with a nine-hour stay in one of the “spa houses”. ” costs $8,500 for two people.

FEMAIL had a private tour of the Aman’s spa and fitness facilities – which span 2,300 square feet over three floors – and the hotel’s two private spas certainly make for impressive spaces.

Each Japanese-style “house” features a double treatment room, spacious living room with sofa bed, large outdoor deck with cold plunge pool and hot tub, and either a banya – a wood-lined sauna – or a hammam – a marble-lined steam room, marble walls and heated treatment table

Marketing Director Simon Kopec says these tranquil spaces are absolutely unique in New York and he knows that no other hotel offers such private and luxurious amenities.

Each stay at a spa house includes an Aman New York Signature treatment and a session in the cryotherapy room, which is said to “nourish the body, mind and spirit” when the temperature drops below -160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Guests also have access to the hotel’s other spa and fitness facilities, including the hotel’s semi-Olympic pool — the builders of which had to rebalance the entire building when it was installed — and a state-of-the-art gym.

One of the more unusual pieces of equipment at the Aman gym is an infrared treadmill.

This device, which costs about $20,000, requires the user to climb into a cubicle-like structure that covers the treadmill.

Once the cabin is closed, infrared heat is distributed throughout the cabin to help the walker or runner burn extra calories and reduce cellulite.

The cost of a day at the spa house also includes light refreshments, including a “prescribed juice” or herbal tea, but additional larger snacks are charged extra.

Like the rest of the Aman hotel, the spa’s interiors are immaculate, with soft lighting and a generous use of natural materials, from teak joinery to polished marble counters.

Thanks to extensive soundproofing, the place is also surprisingly quiet. Or maybe it’s the high prices that keep this place off limits to the masses.

Currently, the Aman Spa is only available to hotel guests and members of the exclusive members club, which costs $200,000 in facility fees plus $15,000 in annual fees
