It’s the buildings that are destroying Blighty.
Britain’s 10 ugliest buildings have been named – and ranked – with buildings such as the Scottish Parliament, Preston railway station and one of Britain’s most expensive blocks of flats all making up the Architectural Hall of Shame.
The ranking was created by world buildingby analyzing Twitter comments.
Buildworld said: “We’ve created an initial list of buildings based on authoritative rankings of the ugliest buildings. This included all previous British Carbuncle Cup winners and nominees.
“Then we searched Twitter for each building’s name and a series of keywords to find all the tweets that reflected public opinion about the design. The tweets collected were filtered to ensure that they talked about the design of the buildings. We have an AI algorithm of pressing face to extract sentiment from the collected tweets, and then we ranked the buildings based on the percentage of negative tweets.”

10. The Shankly Hotel, Liverpool
In 10th place is The Shankly Hotel with 10.8 percent of tweets defaming the design. Rooms there start from £73 a night
9. Balfron Tower, Tower Hamlets, London
Ninth is the Balfron Tower by Hungarian-born modernist architect Erno Goldfinger. Twitter users generally disagreed with the look, with 10.87 percent of tweets criticizing the aesthetic. However, the tower’s website describes it as “a bold, sculptural presence in London’s East End” and “one of London’s most prominent post-war residential buildings”.
8. Redcar Beacon, Yorkshire Coast
Redcar Beacon is a 25 meter high “vertical pier” on the Redcar coast. The structure’s website says it offers visitors the chance to enjoy 360-degree views of the coast. But 11.94 percent of tweets about it mock the design
7. Bridgewater Place, Leeds
This Leeds mixed-use skyscraper had a very mixed reception, with 12.14 percent of tweets driving its appearance
6. A Hyde Park, Knightsbridge, London
One Hyde Park is one of the most expensive properties in the UK, with house prices starting at around £20 million. However, many Twitter users don’t like it, with 13.15 percent of tweets disapproving of the design
5. MI6 Building, Vauxhall Cross, London
License to disappoint: this is Britain’s least-secret secret building – the immensely famous headquarters of the country’s secret service, or MI6 to James Bond fans. In addition to the location, the controversial appearance is no secret. The Buildworld survey found that 14.11 percent of tweets about the building refuted its architecture
4. Liverpool Royal Hospital

3. Preston Railway Station
The appearance of Preston train station is inappropriate for many, with 20.24 per cent of tweets about the structure’s rails violating its design. The main issue appears to be a modern ticket hall which is at odds with the structure’s Victorian heritage
2. Newport Railway Station, Newport, Wales

1. Scottish Parliament Buildings, Edinburgh
It’s the cradle of Scottish democracy, but an eyesore, according to Twitter. The Scottish Parliament is way ahead when it comes to the accumulation of critical tweets. According to the Buildworld survey, 42.07 percent say the architecture is correct.
