The shadow of the Moon will cross part of Spain during a total solar eclipse on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026. The phenomenon will be one of the most prominent astronomical events of the year. The path of totality will also pass through Greenland and Iceland before continuing to other areas of the Northern Hemisphere.
Spain's National Geographic Institute explained on social networks how the lunar shadow will move across Earth during the eclipse. The band of totality will enter through northern Spain and cross part of the northern half of the country. The eclipse will occur toward sunset, making the position of the Sun on the horizon an important factor for observers.

In other parts of Europe and northwestern Africa, the phenomenon will be visible as a partial eclipse. NASA will offer a live broadcast of the total solar eclipse scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m. continental Ecuador time. The stream will allow people to follow the phenomenon even if it is not visible from Ecuador.
