Patrick Ball, who stars in The Pitt, revealed backstage at the 2026 Emmys that he has already pitched Widow's Bay actress Dale Dickey for a guest spot on the medical drama.
"I pitched it last night," Ball told E! News on Sept. 14, hours after The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series. "Her people are thinking it over. They'll get back to us."
Dickey was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Widow's Bay. Ball said she was not the only star on his wish list, adding that Stephen Root, another Widow's Bay actor, also made the cut.
Ball noted that the residents of Widow's Bay's cursed, fictional New England town could use extra medical help heading into season two. "They've got a lot of problems," he added. "It's teed up for us."
Two Shows, Two Big Emmy Nights
The Pitt follows the staff of a Pittsburgh trauma medical center and stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. Widow's Bay is a comedy horror series set in a fictional, cursed New England town.
Both shows dominated the 2026 Emmys. Widow's Bay swept the comedy categories with 14 wins total, including Outstanding Comedy Series and acting honors for Root, Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn and Betty Gilpin.
The Pitt collected six statues of its own, including Outstanding Drama Series for the second year in a row. Wyle and Ernest Harden Jr. were also recognized for their lead and guest performances, respectively.
Widow's Bay Cast Plays Along
Word of the crossover pitch reached the Widow's Bay side of the room, and the cast said they appreciated the shout-outs. "We told them to say that," Rhys joked to E! News. "Noah Wyle, tell them it's us."
Jeff Hiller also joked about the possibility of the two worlds colliding. "It would be a hell of a ferry ride, I know that," he said. "Sure, why not? I got bronchitis."
Straight From the Red Carpet to the Set
The Pitt's big night didn't leave much time to celebrate. The cast and crew had to report to set the very next day to begin filming season three.
Wyle offered a preview of what's ahead. "Starts right off with a bang," he told E! News. "Get a little bit of night shift this year to sort of open the show. Every one of these characters that you've come to know and love is going through something rather significant this year. It's less of a Robby-centric arc of depression and despondency and it focuses more on everybody else and how they're all coping. So everybody else gets to step up this season in a wonderful way."
Cast Reflects on the Show's Impact
Harden Jr., who won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt, credited word of mouth for the show's popularity. "They love the show. They love all these characters," he said. "I just feel that, again, the hospital community embraced it, and they told all their friends. And that's just how we became hot because people said, 'Hey, this is just like going to work. You've got to see this show.' And look what happened? We became No. 1."
Katherine LaNasa, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Pitt, said the recognition from the Television Academy meant a great deal to her. "When I think about the people in the Television Academy, the people in the audience, they're just such amazing artists," she said. "And to think that people I have admired for so long, to think that they feel that way about us, it's just really meaningful. It's the highest honor. I take this with so much gratitude and humility."
