Film company Warner Bros. Discovery announced in an investor report that the fifth film in The Matrix franchise will be released after 2027. The studio outlined the future of its franchises in the activity report, confirming that the new installment will not arrive until 2028 at the earliest.
Development and box office history
The company has not revealed plot details or indicated whether the upcoming picture will connect to previous films in the series. Drew Goddard, who directed Bad Times at the El Royale, is set to write and direct the movie. Goddard previously stated that plot specifics will be shared after he finishes writing the script.
Development of The Matrix 5 was first disclosed in spring 2024, three years after the release of The Matrix Resurrections. That previous installment earned $157 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of $190 million.
