Thailand’s prime minister has called two murders of Russian nationals near Pattaya a national shame, saying the crimes had provoked outrage across the country.
Anuthin Charnvirakul was responding to questions about two brutal killings of Russian citizens in the Huai Yai district near Pattaya since early 2026, including the murders of a Russian brother and sister.
He said expats, rather than tourists, were more often the victims of serious violent crimes against foreigners, because they tended to venture beyond tourist zones where security standards and law enforcement presence were consistently high.
The prime minister said it was awful to know the two young Russians had died after encountering a criminal on an empty road at night, a person he described as having long lost their humanity.
Charnvirakul said both investigations and trials would thoroughly examine what led to the crimes in order to prevent similar tragedies. He confirmed the killers would not be granted bail during proceedings.
