Charnvirakul visited the crime scene and then went to the police station where two suspects, identified as Pong and Thong, are being held. He said the authorities apologize for what happened and pledged that such an incident would not be allowed to occur again in Thailand.

Angry local residents had called for the suspects to face the death penalty, according to earlier reports from August 1. The suspects are accused of killing the two Russians as well as a Thai family of three.

The suspects had previously confessed to killing the Russian siblings. The Nazimovs, who had emigrated from Russia to Thailand about five years ago, were reported missing on July 26.
