Stelato, a brand created by BAIC and Huawei, received more than 15,000 purchase requests for its new G9 flagship SUV in the first 72 hours after pre-orders opened. The vehicle has a starting pre-order price of 439,800 yuan, which is approximately 5.3 million rubles.
The Stelato G9 is a large premium SUV featuring an angular body, all-wheel drive, and Huawei electronics. Buyers can select either a fully electric version or an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) modification equipped with a gasoline engine-generator.
The SUV measures 5,377 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,897 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. The manufacturer offers both five-seat (2+3) and six-seat (2+2+2) cabin configurations.
Despite its premium positioning, engineers designed the G9 for off-road travel. It features an approach angle of 23 degrees, a departure angle of 26 degrees, and a claimed wading depth of up to 900 mm. The vehicle can tow a trailer weighing up to 2 tons and offers accessories such as a tow hitch, external luggage modules, and other travel equipment.
Camping Features and Interior Technology
A dedicated camping version features a lifting roof that transforms into a two-level tent with an extra sleeping area. The setup provides up to 2,260 liters of interior space with a maximum structural load of 260 kg while preserving the panoramic roof. The rear of the camping model includes a fold-out cooking table and a water supply system to create a mobile campsite.
Inside, the cabin pairs off-road styling with Huawei technology, including a signature three-screen HarmonyOS front panel architecture. Physical buttons remain on the center console, tunnel, and ceiling panel. The zero-gravity front seats offer electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while the six-seat model features second-row seats with 4-way adjustable leg rests, ventilation, heating, and multi-level massage.
The SUV incorporates the Huawei Qiankun driver assistance complex, which uses a new-generation dual-beam high-resolution lidar. The G9 architecture was designed for Level 3 autonomous driving, and the model has already received approval for road testing.
Platform Performance and Local Production Plans
Built on an 800-volt electric architecture, the all-wheel-drive G9 relies on two electric motors producing a total output of 594 horsepower. The fully electric model carries a 120 kWh traction battery with a range of up to 728 km under the Chinese CLTC cycle. The hybrid version pairs a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine generator with an electric drive, delivering 405 km of pure electric range and a maximum total range of 1,366 km under CLTC testing.
Off-road performance relies on Huawei's Smart Engine Adaptive Differential Lock Electric Drive system, featuring a mechanical cam clutch differential lock that engages automatically based on driving conditions. The G9 is the first model on Huawei's new TuLing off-road platform, using a double-wishbone front suspension, a five-link rear suspension, dual-chamber air suspension, and continuous damping control adaptive shock absorbers.
The chassis includes an active disconnecting anti-roll bar similar to Toyota SUVs, which reduces body roll on pavement and increases suspension travel and wheel articulation off-road. A four-wheel steering system allows the rear wheels to turn up to +/- 12 degrees to reduce the turning radius, while a terrain recognition system automatically adjusts suspension and chassis settings after analyzing the surface ahead.
Production of the Stelato G9 could eventually take place in Kaliningrad, Russia. Avito Auto Journal reported that BAIC Motors Rus is currently conducting negotiations with BAIC concerning the localization of hybrid models in the Russian Federation.
