Scarlett Johansson has shut down rumors of a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, clarifying that Natasha Romanoff is dead. Johansson made her heroic departure in Avengers: Endgame when Romanoff sacrificed herself to save the world. Two years later, the character starred in a solo prequel movie titled Black Widow.
Black Widow filled gaps in Natasha's past, delivered high-level action, and introduced Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, who became her successor. However, many fans felt the solo movie arrived as a case of "too little, too late".
Speculation about past heroes returning has grown as Marvel opened the multiverse ahead of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. While a multiverse variant of Natasha remains theoretically possible, Johansson dismissed any personal interest in coming back. "Natasha died. She's dead. She dead. Okay?" Johansson said Astyle.
