A Russian tourist was injured after a restaurant ceiling collapsed on her at a hotel in Oludeniz, Turkey, during severe mountain mudflows. The vacationer was standing under the restaurant terrace ceiling when the structure gave way under the weight of accumulated rainwater.
She suffered a leg injury in the collapse and was taken to a local hospital, where doctors applied stitches to her knee and toe. After returning from the medical facility, she joined her friends to drink cocktails in an effort to relieve stress.
Details of the incident emerged after a friend travelling with the woman published a video of the aftermath on the social networking platform Instagram. Additional footage showing the damaged property was shared on the 112 Telegram channel.
Flooding damages elevated resort property
The collapse occurred during a storm that sent water rushing from nearby mountains into Oludeniz, flooding streets, retail shops, and hotel grounds throughout the settlement. The hotel where the group of Russian tourists was staying was located on high ground, but the building was still damaged as water collected above the dining area.

The ceiling on the restaurant terrace could not support the heavy volume of water and collapsed directly onto the tourist who was standing beneath it at the time.
Resort location and coastal topography
Oludeniz is a small beach resort village in the Fethiye district of Mugla Province, situated on the southwestern coast of Turkey where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. The village is known globally for its sheltered sandy lagoon and Belcekiz Beach, as well as Mount Babadag, which looms directly behind the town. The steep mountain terrain surrounding the resort means heavy precipitation can rapidly generate mudflows that drain downward into developed hotel areas.
Recent hotel accidents involving tourists
The terrace ceiling collapse follows another recent hazard at a Turkish resort involving a holidaymaker from Russia. In that earlier incident, a heavy glass door detached and fell onto a Russian woman staying at a five-star hotel in Turkey, resulting in severe cuts to both her arms and legs.
Turkey is a primary holiday destination for Russian travelers, with millions visiting its southern coastal resorts annually during the peak summer and autumn vacation seasons.
