Russian tourists visiting Vietnam are being offered intimate procedures disguised as medical treatment after free health checkups, according to Russian traveler Anastasia Rets, who described one such checkup in Nha Trang to the outlet Baza.
Rets said that after an examination, a doctor shows the patient a pre-prepared sign reading "You are sick," then offers paid procedures. One of these, described as intimate area cleansing, costs 600,000 dong, or about 1,900 rubles.
How the procedure is carried out
The procedure is performed using an ordinary spray bottle filled with a brown liquid. Rets said the water is not changed between patients. She refused the service herself, but her friend and several other tourists agreed to it.
Rets said her friend developed burning and dryness after the treatment, symptoms that did not go away for the rest of the trip. There is no reliable information about what the liquid contains or whether the procedure serves any medical purpose.
Vietnamese authorities have also recently begun conducting mass drug testing of Russian tourists, according to earlier reports.
