A Russian tourist from St. Petersburg has vanished without a trace in Bangkok, Thailand, according to the Telegram channel Baza.
Yegor Meshcheryakov, 22, worked as a waiter and rented out his apartment to save money for the trip. He first traveled to China, then reached the Thai resort city of Pattaya in mid-June, where he frequently visited bars and socialized with women.
On August 2, Meshcheryakov moved on to Bangkok, planning to head next to the mountains of Chiang Mai. He appears never to have left the Thai capital.
Mother's calls answered by a stranger
Meshcheryakov had messaged and called his mother daily, but he went silent for three days. When she finally got through, an unfamiliar Thai man answered instead of her son, attempting to speak with her in English and Thai before he stopped picking up.
Baza noted that Thai suspects previously detained over the killing of Russian tourists had confessed to the crime.
