Russian travel blogger Alexander said his initial impression of Belize was deceptive after visiting one of the most dangerous countries in Latin America. He shared his observations on his personal blog, delaichehochesh, on the Zen platform.

Alexander reported that after crossing the border, poverty immediately caught his eye, including old houses, shabby streets, beggars, and a sense of abandonment. However, he noted that the further he and his girlfriend drove through the country, the calmer they felt.
According to the blogger, no one tried to deceive them or showed aggression during their journey. He said people greeted them, smiled, and helped them find their way whenever they asked for directions.
Belize City Crime and Travel Experience
Alexander acknowledged that Belize contains areas where tourists should avoid traveling, particularly specific sections of Belize City where a significant portion of crime is recorded. He added that many other nations are structured in the same manner.
Reflecting on four and a half years of a round the world trip, the traveler stated that statistics and real life are not always identical. He explained that people can read dozens of articles and form a pre-existing opinion, or visit in person to discover a completely different reality.
In an earlier post, the same blogger described Belize as a home to descendants of actual pirates. He noted that pirates historically hid among islands and mangrove thickets, attacked Spanish ships, and returned to the area to divide their loot.
