Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has begun airing the first images of Lorca, las horas perdidas, a new true-crime documentary examining the death of poet Federico Garcia Lorca.
The production, starring Angel Ruiz, uses the framework of a criminal investigation to explore unanswered questions surrounding Lorca's arrest and execution by firing squad in the Viznar ravine near Granada.
Broadcaster channel La 1 is positioning the upcoming premiere as the flagship element of a broad audiovisual rollout marking 90 years since the murder, according to RTVE.

García Lorca remains one of Spain's most celebrated 20th-century poets and dramatists, who was executed by nationalist forces in 1936 during the opening weeks of the Spanish Civil War. RTVE, Spain's state-owned radio and television network, operates main channel La 1, cultural station La 2, and streaming platform RTVE Play.
New documentary feature and upcoming cinema projects
As part of the same broadcasting strategy, RTVE is participating in La voz quebrada, a documentary feature film directed by Manuel Menchon. The film will premiere at the San Sebastian International Film Festival before opening in commercial cinemas in October.
Featuring an ensemble cast led by actor Alvaro Morte, the documentary centers on secret documents and private memories preserved by Juan Ramirez de Lucas, who was identified as Lorca's last partner.
The network's film strategy also includes the upcoming production of Lorca, a narrative feature directed by Fernando Franco. Actor Nacho Sanchez stars in the title role, which focuses on reconstructing the poet's final weeks from his departure from Madrid to his arrival in Granada.

Archival discoveries and televised broadcasts
Alongside its film projects, investigations by RTVE news program Telediarios have uncovered previously unreleased historical items connected to the poet in recent months.
News reports presented an unpublished poem attributed to Lorca, which was shared by flamenco singer Miguel Poveda. Journalists also discovered a musical manuscript handwritten by Lorca, which has been integrated into the musical score for Menchon's documentary film.
To support the programming initiative, streaming service RTVE Play has published a dedicated portal highlighting key audiovisual works about the writer. Cultural channel La 2 is also airing the conclusion of Lorca, muerte de un poeta during its summer schedule, a 1980s miniseries directed by Juan Antonio Bardem that serves as a prologue to the main release on La 1.
